In the capacity of a Senior Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to spearhead the development of changes across all our brand websites, encompassing the construction of new websites and web pages. Your role demands the delivery of high-quality, maintainable, and efficient code adhering to defined standards. As a Senior Engineer, staying abreast of the latest frontend and backend development technologies is crucial. Your ability to function seamlessly within a team, as well as independently, will be essential, requiring effective multitasking, workload prioritization, and resourcefulness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop websites to meet the specifications outlined by internal stakeholders.
  • Amend and update content on webpages.
  • Implement new functionality and features in accordance with business requirements.
  • Provide accurate estimates and proficiently manage multiple tasks with numerous dependencies.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and collaborate closely with key stakeholders.
  • Deliver secure, high-quality, and maintainable code in a timely fashion, aligning with our development guidelines.

Skills and Experience

Technical Proficiency:

  • Proficient in PHP development using standard frameworks.
  • Expertise in crafting HTML and CSS (SASS) modular architecture for the creation of usable, accessible, and web standards-compliant websites.
  • Utilisation of GIT or similar version control systems.
  • Development of complex interactive components employing languages, libraries, and techniques such as JavaScript, jQuery, and AJAX.
  • Solid understanding of client-side JavaScript frameworks, particularly React.
  • Proven experience in developing mobile-specific and responsive templates and components.
  • Competence in working with SQL databases.
  • Proficient in writing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Extensive experience with cloud hosting and Kubernetes.
  • Track record of delivering SEO-compliant components and adherence to development standards in line with modern trends.
  • Proficiency in a Linux environment.
  • Experience with virtual environments, specifically Docker.
  • Oversight of junior web developers, including code evaluation and performance assessment through peer review.

  • Thorough knowledge of the complete development process.
  • Expertise in working with Continuous Integration.
  • Ability to translate flat file designs into fully-fledged web pages and applications.
  • Effective time management skills, consistently meeting agreed-upon deadlines.

  • Passion for all aspects of web development.

  • Collaboration with designers to conceptualise and develop compelling UI/UX elements.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.

Desirable Skills (Willingness to Work Towards):

  • Proficiency in developing within a Drupal environment using the Twig template language.
  • Familiarity with Storybook for creating bespoke UI components.
  • Knowledge of creating accessible web components.
  • Familiarity with Google Tag Manager.
  • Competence in using NextJS/React to develop full multipage application websites.
  • Willingness to learn GitLab and Azure DevOps systems.
  • Proficiency in working with unit and automated testing processes, ensuring the robustness and reliability of developed applications.

Interview Process

There will be a two-stage process for this vacancy; one online test and one 60-minute interview via MS Teams.

Location

For Hybrid workers (within a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to work from the office twice a month.  For remote workers (outside of a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to attend the office a handful of times a year when required (i.e big meetings, workshops etc).

Salary, Benefits, and Work-Life Balance

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience. We are happy to see CVs from all candidates who meet the requirements and will be happy to discuss the remuneration package.
